Window discount blinds Heat Reducing Capacity

Window window blindsvertical or horizontal slat-typeare more effective at reducing summer heat gain than winter heat loss.Because of the numerous openings between the slats, it’s difficult to control heat loss through interior window custom blinds, but the slats offer flexibility in the summer. Unlike shades, you can adjust the slats to control light and ventilation. For example, when completely closed and lowered on a sunny window, highly reflective discount blinds can reduce heat gain by around 45%. They can also be adjusted to block and reflect direct sunlight onto a light-colored ceiling. A light-colored ceiling will diffuse the light without much heat or glare.

Window Treatment Inovations Funding

Among the projects selected for funding are:

Advanced Processing Technology of Electrochromic Windows: A process to develop new film patterning techniques for energy-saving smart windows. The process improves visible light transmission and reduces glare, while retaining a clear view and increasing thermal comfort. Also, encouraging innovation with window discount blinds and shades to help increase energy savings.

An Indirect Route for Ethanol Production: A process to develop fuel ethanol from renewable resources to achieve savings of 80 percent in energy consumption. The process helps U.S. farmers create a market for corn supplies and increases national energy security.

Manufacturing Ceramic Products from Fiberglass Waste: A low-cost energy method of completely transforming fiberglass waste into a dense ceramic product that can be used for window window blinds, shades, as well as other uses. The process could eliminate the need for disposal of 260,000 tons of fiberglass waste annually.

Near-Infrared (NIR) Veneer Strength Sensor for Forest Industry: Use of NIR sensors instead of ultra-sonic technology allows testing for veneer wood strength before drying. The NIR technology will improve process efficiency and reduce product waste, and is expected to save about $23,000 annually in energy costs.

The Force Modulator: A durable sheet metal technology for the steel industry that allows proper control of press forces during part forming.

“25 percent of the energy used to heat and cool buildings goes right out the window,” Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham said. “The innovative technologies receiving funding today will improve U.S. industrial competitiveness while reducing energy use, helping to make our nation more secure.” Existing window treatments and shades can be improved to help reduce energy costs.

The Energy Department selected 19 organizations out of 202 proposals to receive funding as part of two DOE programs: Inventions and Innovation (I&I), and the National Industrial Competitiveness through Energy, Environment and Economics (NICE3) initiative.

New Venetian Blind Created

RADIANCE is description of a set of new venetian window treatments. The depth of the window coverings (X dimension) is given first, followed by the width (Y dimension), followed by the height (Z dimension). The number of slats to place evenly within this height is given as nslats. The angle of the blind, where zero is perfectly horizontal and a positive angle tilts the positive X edge upwards, is given in degrees. The window treatments are initially situated so that the corner of the bottom blind isheight/nslats/2 above the XY plane, and all coordinates are positive. Each new slat is placed height/nslats above the previous one, until the top slat is at height - height/nslats/2 . The window coverings may of course be moved from this starting point with the xform(1) command.

Energy Efficiency Funding

For more than 20 years, DOE’s I&I program has funded more than 500 energy efficient inventions with nearly 25 percent of them reaching the marketplace. Cumulative sales for those products total nearly $710 million.

DOE’s NICE3 program provides funding to state and industry partnerships (large and small business) for projects that demonstrate advances in energy efficiency and clean production technologies like advanced window blind and window shade systems. State and industry partnerships are eligible to receive a one-time grant of up to $525,000. The industrial partner may receive a maximum of $500,000 in federal funding. The non-federal cost share must be at least 50 percent of the total cost of the project.

What is a Mini Blind?

What is a Mini Blind?

The long horizontal slats are held one above the other by the rungs of ladder cords shaped like a ladder. The lower ends of the legs of the ladder cords are secured to the long rail under the slats. Their upper ends are attached to the drive rod in the housing, the elongated box above the slats. As the drive rod rotates, one leg of each ladder cord moves up while the other moves down, causing the angle of the slats to change. In one design, this rotation is achieved by pushing up or pulling down on a long handle called a tilt wand connected to the drive rod by a lever. Lift cords along the ladder cords are also attached to the rail. They pass through holes in the slats and into the housing above, where they go over pulleys, combine and exit through the cord lock. For safety it’s important that the lock always work. A downward pull on the main lift cord raises the slats by the cords pulling up the rail below the slats. The cord lock holds the main lift cord to keep the slats up until the cord is pulled to release the lock. The safety lock made the cord lock easier to use.

History of the Mini Blind

Categories: Other | May 6th, 2008 | by Admin | no comments

History of the Mini Blind

A mini blind (mini-blind, miniblind) is a type of non-vertical window blind made of long, narrow slats held together by string and located inside the window. Its slats are not as wide as venetian blind slats.2 A mini blind has more slats than a regular Venetian blind because its slats are narrow. The slats of mini discount blinds are less than half the width of regular Venetian window blinds. The slats are opened and closed by rotating a rod or by directly pulling a string. They are raised and lowered by pulling other strings.

custom blinds made of narrow, light-weight horizontal wood slats, adjustable to admit or exclude light, were developed in 1794, and called Venetian discount blinds. The window blinds were often used instead of window curtains or shutters. In the 1840s, these custom blinds were held together by flat strips of cloth instead of by cords perhaps to shade the lift holes and like today they came in various colors.4 In 1966, a new pulley system was invented which afforded great improvement in the control mechanism. 5 Over time, narrower slats became more common, as they were easier to clean and they reduced glare at certain settings and their appearance was pleasing to many. In 1946 Henry Sonnenberg and Joe Hunter developed technology and equipment for the production of lightweight aluminum slats (50 mm) for Venetian discount blinds, and by 1979, 25 mm slats were popular.6
